Muchmore U.K. GP Sunday G.M.C.C. Race Report.

Post by MR G.M.C.C. on Fri Jun 20, 2008 11:46 am

Well after a good night's rest in the monster motorhome we had a quick breakfast and put our shop out then I started charging for the first round of heats. With only me racing today due to the extra speed of Mod Matt became my pit manager for the day and Dani and Kel caught up with their Eastenders and dvd watching.
We were to qualiy the same way as Saturday which would be round by round, not my favorite way as it is a bit confusing at times but it would work to my advantage in the end.
After finding out on the previous day that the tyres were very good on their 1st run (probably the best, for me anyway) I tryed to use them for all 4 rounds of Qualiy but sitting in 3rd overall after round 3 it was very tempting to use a new set for round 4, but as Matt said as I would with no doubt be in the A Final I should save my new set for the Finals which I did, thanks Matt.
So going into the Finals I was still 3rd overall so new tyres would probably have not made much difference to where I qualified and now I had the advantage of fresh rubber for Leg 1.

A Final Leg 1.
As the buzzer went we all shot off of the grid and Tom Jefferies spun onto the grass, so I hit the throttle and by the end of the straight I was a foot behind the leader and this is the way it stayed until the end as I think neither of us wanted to lose the positions we were in. So a 2nd for leg 1 was fantastic.

A Fianl Leg 2.
Another good start and the top 3 (including me) started to pull away form the pack, after a few laps I got into trouble when a back marker side swipped me which cost me a place or 2, so I was to a happy bunny. I kept cool and made a few places back up only to be hit by the same driver again a lap later on the same corner '.'.er.. well after that it was damage limitation time so I drove as well as poss and managed to come across the line in 6th and not happy, but with fingers crossed.

Over the P.A. came the results and after my name was annouced as being 3rd overall a big smile appeared on my face. I had a 2nd and a 6th which gave me 3rd overall, not bad for first time out in Mod. I could have got second if not taken out but that's racing.

So it was time to pack up and then off to podium for champers and trophies, what a day, what a weekend, the pictures around all the websites and forums says it all really.

A big thank you to Kelly, Dani and Matt for all of your help over the weekend and to my Sponsors Muchmore Racing U.K. and of course F.T.Q. Models, you are all stars.
