Muchmore U.K. GP Saturday G.M.C.C. Race Report.

Post by MR G.M.C.C. on Fri Jun 20, 2008 11:20 am

Well after a very long and expensive trip of 530 miles to Stonhaven on the Friday which took 12 hours in our gas guzzeling hired motorhome we finally arrived at 8pm. We were greated by George who ushered us into our pit/shop space for the weekend next to the Muchmore stand.
We set up and had a bite to eat and then climbed the huge rostrum to have a look at the track which is probably the biggest track in the U.K. We were all tired so no practice, just an early night.
We were woken up early on Saturday morning by a very eager Matt who had been up since about 6am sorting his car and practicing, later on I would wish I had practiced aswell.

Saturday morning: As the weather was a bit hit and miss race control had decided to go with round by round Qualifying. This means you get points for where you finish in each round, so even if it was raining you had to race or lose valuable points.
We were all pretty lucky and I think it was just me who got caught out
in round 3 when the heavens opended. Luckily I only had a few laps left
to do so I stayed out and hoped nothing blew, which it did'nt.
We were using the shortened track layout for today in the 10.5/19t class which turned out to be a lot hardered than Sundays Mod track. The key to fast lap times was hitting full speed when bearing off of the straight and through the chicane going down to the roundabout, if you could do this you were on for a hot lap. Some drivers even the top ones got this wrong and clipped the chicane which resulted in a broken car or wheel.
After 4 rounds I was 6th in the B Final and Matt and Dani were 1st and 7th in the G Final.

G Final Leg 1.

After the start which saw the cars lined up from the begining of the straight and around the sweeper it was clear that there was an advantage if you were in the 1st to 3rd grid slots as you could power away from the line without having to turn, all the other cars seemed to have to take it easy when excellerating off of the line. Matt had an interference problem which moved him down the grid order and we saw Dani start to move up the feild and after lap 3 she was in first place (imagine my excitment and optimisim) towards the closing stages of the race which Dani had lead for so far Matt had been slowly but surely recovering and caught Dani and clipped her so she spun but Matt did the gentlemanly thing and waited for her to recover but on the last lap he managed to get past her cleanly and took the win with Dani come home a close second.

G Final Leg 2.

Leg 2 was an interesting one as one of the cars that sat out leg 1 was very quick in this leg but did make a few mistakes so Matt and Dani had it all to do if they were to get a trophy. Half way through and Matt and the quick car were having a real ding dong of race whilst Dani was being very consistant and only about 1/4 of a lap behind. In the end Matt finished 2nd and Dani close behind in 3rd, which gave them 1st and 2nd overall. Well done to you both for excellent drives on a very hard track.

B Final Leg 1 & 2.

After being a bit dissapointed with my Qualiy due to a lack of time to set up and prepair my car whist pitting for Dani and trying to run the shop at the same time I was not to bothered where I finished but was happy to finished where I started in 6th place.

At the end of the finals there was a Raffle with some very nice prises but the big Raffle was to held on Sunday with a huge prize fund. The trophies were then presented and it was time for dinner and then get my car ready for Sunday's main event for me the 4.5 BL 6 Cell. I had a few practice runs and was amased at the speed of a 4.5 BL with 6 Cells, it was scary, what would Sunday bring????.............
