Much-More Scottish Grand Prix Live Report

This
weekend sees the running of the Much-More Scottish Grand Prix, this now
very popular event attracts many of the Uk's top touring car drivers
and kicks off in Stonehaven on Saturday morning, we are aiming to bring
you updates, photos and news from the track so drop in for an update
during the weekend.

Friday
Day
one of the meeting and for many its all about getting here, for those
able to make it on Friday a chance to practise. Already missing from
the meeting is Chris Grainger and Andy Moore who puled out of the
meeting for various reasons. So who is here, Ben Cosgrove and Elliott
Harper are here flying the X-Ray flag while Olly Jeffeires has just
arrived and has offically been blamed for the rain that accompanied his
arrival. Schumacher team driver
Russell Williams is busy learning a track he has not raced at before,
while Ryan Lee of Muchmore Korea is also getting in some laps, not
making such a big journey as Ryan, but still a fair old haul is Alan
Bikerstaff, this event has always seen the Irish driver go well and he
brings his much improved Associated TC5 to Scotland.

The shower has now past and drivers are getting back out on a damp track.

As
the afternoon progressed all the driver struggled to get a dry run, the
showers were regular and that is the forcast for day one on Saturday,
the Muchmore Grand Prix has a pro stock meeting on Saturday and a
modifed race on the sunday, nearly all thedrivers race both classes,
qualifying is round by round.

Results from the first round of qualifying will be posted in the morning, so stop by late morning for an up date.

Round One
Round
one is now complete, it was an eventfull run with Olly Jefferies
winning the round despite dropping four seconds with a roll from which
he had to be collected by a marshal, Elliott Harper was next up and
another quick runnner Alan Bickerstaff was third, Alan was unlucky
after a roll near the end of the run cost him a little time.

Top Ten After Round One
Olly Jefferies Hot Bodies
Elliott Harper X RayAlan Bickerstaff Associated
Neils Koenekoop TopKev Falkoner X Ray
Ryan Lee X Ray
Tom Jefferies Hot Bodies
Matt Dunning Hot Bodies
Russ Williams Schumacher
Keith Dempsey Serpent

Round Two
A
small shower of rain fell at the start of round 2 making the track
slippy for the early runners and greasy for the top 20, a last gasp
change of tyres from slicks to intermediates proved a wise choice for
Olly Jefferies as he took another round win, Olly's Mirage team mate
Ben Cosgrove was second in round two with his X-ray. and making it an
all Mirage top three was Ellliott Harper, Russ Williams was fourth with
his Schumacher.

Round 3
Another rain
effected round, it may sound that its raining all the time but the fact
is its only showers, they roll in and soak the track but it dries very
quickly, but this does enough to mess up the order some what. In round
3 it rained with two heats to go, this left Matt Dunning with the
fastest time from Keith Dempsey and Alistair Graham. Olly is still top
of the pile and with one more round of qualifying to go he now cant be
beaten, below him is a real scrap for a top ten place...difficult to
see the overall picture as drivers are now dropping their worst score,
we will be back with the final places in qualifying after the fourth
and final round which has just got underway.

Round 4 and final Qualifying Positions
Olly
sat out the last round to save tyres ( this meeting only allows two
sets of controlled slick tyres per day) so it was Ben Cosgrove that
took the round four win from Elliott Harper with Matt Dunning hot on
Elliotts heels in fourth, so its the top four qualifying places for
team Mirage, Alan Bickerstaff completes the top five for Associated,
Ryan Lee is the unlucky driver in eleventh just missing out on an A
final place, so the final top ten positions in qualifiyng on day one of
the Pro Stock Grand Prix are.......

Olly Jefferies
Ben Cosgrove
Elliott Harper
Matt Dunning
Alan Bickerstaff
Russell Williams
Alistair Graham
Keith Dempsey
Kev Falkoner
Tom Jefferies

A Final Leg One
It
was touch and go for the first leg of the modified A final as black
clouds gathered over head, a fine sprinkle of rain fell as the drivers
walked up to the rostrum, but the weather held and the leg one got
underway on dry track. Olly led the first leg of the A final from start
and never looked troubled as first Ben Cosrove rolled dropping down to
fifth and then Elliott Harper pulled out at half way with a broken car,
Ben Recovered to finish second with a hard battling Alan Bickerstaff
completing the top three, Alistair Graham kept out of trouble to finish
fourth and Kev Falkoner completed the top five.

One
more final to go and that will complete day one of the meeting
and determine the winner of the Pro Stock Muchmore Grand Prix.

A Final Leg Two
The
final leg of the A final saw victory for Elliott after he pressured
Olly into running wide on a hairpin, Olly did not over defend the move
knowing that Elliots DNF from leg meant he was not a contender for the
win, so it was Elliott from Olly with Ben third, this left the podium
being Olly from Ben and Alan (who always goes well here and finishes
well) Bickerstaff to take the last step on the podium. After some
champagne spraying and prize giving drivers are now installing their
3.5 motors for the fast and furious day two...we will be back in the
morning to bring you all the news from Sunday.

Day Two Modified

Sunday
and modified, the sun is shinning but we know from yesterday how quick
the conditions can change here, practise this morning saw the usual
suspects on the pace, Olly Jefferies, Elliott Harper were all putting
in quick laps as was Alan Bickerstaff and Russ Williams, Ben Cosgrove
sat out practise while he caught up on some missed sleep from last
night, today we are running two classes, five cell brushless as pre
BRCA spec and six cell or lipo with brushless, that should be
interesting to watch, and just going back to my original comment about
about how quick the weather can change here, it now just started to
rain.....

Everyone got a dry run in round one as the rain that
started to fall came to nothing, Olly Jefferies picked up from where he
left of yesterday by setting the fastest time in round one, but he was
not the fastest on the track, that title fell to Elliott Harper who set
some blistering lap times after an early off, so the order after round
one is Olly from Elliott and then flying dutch man Nils Koenekoop who
was very consistent and delghted his TOP sponsor Vincent Yip who is
over here from Hong Kong.

In the six cell class early leader is
Graham Kenny from Gordon Dempsey and Mark Young, and I know you want to
know this, whats quicker, five cell or six cell, well Ollys FTD time
was 19 laps and 307.91, six cell time for Graham 18 laps 308.66, draw
your own conclusions on that one.

Round 2

It was Elliott
Harper that took the fastest time in round two, the young X-ray driver
put in a fault free run to finish ahead of Olly Jefferies whose Hot
Bodies looked a little lack lusture in its perfomance out of the
corners, Nils was third with Ben coming home fourth. This leaves the
order after two round Olly ( with a faster time from round one)
Elliott and Nils, Alan Bickerstaff moves up to fourth with Ben Cosgrove
completing the top five. The rest of the top ten is Russell Williams,
Mark Gilliland, Alistair Graham, Ryan Lee and John Simpson.

In
the six cell class the top three stays the same wth Graham Kenny still
leading from Gordon Dempsey and Mark Young, interesting to see nine
differnt manufactures in the top ten of this class.

Round 3

The
third round and another win for Elliott, Elliott now looks favourite
for pole position unless Olly can something special out of the bag in
the last round, Olly came home second in round 3 with Nils third, Ben
Cosgrove is struggling this morning with what appears to be hay fever
which is effecting his perfomance. Round 3 winner in the six cell class
was Tom Jefferies for Hot Bodies, Tom had two DNF's in round one and
two, but if he cant repeat his round three perfomance it would move him
in to contension for a top grid slot, so both Jefferies have a lot to
do in the last round, Mark Young moves up to second in this class
dropping Gordon Dempsey to third.

Round 4

Drama in round
four as Olly led the five cell heat until one of his rear tyres
exploded, (think Mansell F1 in Austrailia a few years back) Elliott
then pulled off close to the end and allowed Ben to take the round win,
this lifted Ben up to third. In six cell modified Tom Jefferies won the
round and this was enough for him to mirror his borthers result and he
will start second in A final behind Graham Kenny, Mark young completes
the top three in six cell.

The
first lap of the six cell final was eventfull to say the least, but
once everyone had got over the loop things settled down a little, Kev
Falconer come through from third to win followed by Mark Young, Graham
Kenny and Tom Jeffries recovered from first lap incidents to finish
third and fourth, Gordon Dempsey completed the top five.

Buzzer
to flag win for Elliott as the young star is now showing maturity to go
with his undoubted talent, and the results are starting to come,
Elliott faught off an early charge from Olly as these two pulled away
from the chasing pack, Olly came home second while Ben, who is now
feeling a lot better was third.

So
thats it from Stonehaven, sorry its a rushed end to the report but we
have to pack and dash for a plane, the event was a fantastic success
and well received by all the drivers, the Stonehaven club puts a great
deal off effort into running this meeting and the well appriciated by
all the drivers, well done to Elliott on his first major home win, to
Olly Pro Stock Winner yesterday and Kev Falconer who won six cell
modified.....the last highlight of prize giving, Elliott Harper
drinking champane....he is still such a boy..!

More pictures and stuff to be added during the week when the dust has settled and I have recovered a little...
