LRP & NOSRAM 10.5 SPEC BRUSHLESS MOTORS.
LRP & NOSRAM BRUSHLESS MOTORS.
Clarification regarding the use of Aluminium End-Plates
The BRCA Electric Board (EB) are aware that the manufacturers of LRP and Nosram Brushless motors have produced Aluminium End-Plates that can be used to replace the standard versions that are supplied with the original motor.
The items involved are :-
1.
An aluminium plate of two different thickness, with cooling recesses to replace the original ‘plain’ version at the pinion end of the motor.
2.
An aluminium plate with machined grooves to replace the plastic cap retained with three screws at the ‘terminal’ end of the motor.
As yet, NEITHER OF THESE ITEMS ARE APPROVED FOR USE at BRCA sanctioned events.
Electric Board Rule 4.4 states that any substantial design changes to a motor require the motor to be re-approved. Neither of the above Plates have been submitted to the BRCA (EB) for approval and therefore cannot be added to the list of variations allowed on these motors.
It is unlikely that the ‘grooved’ plate intended for the ‘terminal’ end of the motor will be allowed, as it does not currently include the name of the manufacturer which is required under rule 9.8. This Rule is the same within most International organisations.
The recessed Plate intended for the pinion end of the motor may be allowed in the future, but until samples have been submitted to check that required dimensions are maintained, it is not approved.
The manufacturer of the motors and the UK distributors have been informed of the above decision.

Re: LRP & NOSRAM 10.5 SPEC BRUSHLESS MOTORS.
As far as I can see these new endplates are an improvement to the motor but as they don't come with the spec motor or include the makers name i.e. LRP or Nosram adding these make the total cost of the motor more than the BRCA legal limit of £75.00. I can't see either company making a Spec motor that comes with these end plates for the Legal £75 price. So well done to the B.R.C.A. for spotting this and keeping things equal for all and can all the Winter Series/Championships watch out for these endplates as it will make a difference to a motors performance one way or another.
