Me, Kel, Dani and Matt went to have a look see at the New Maritime Raceway Venue last night.
It was surprisingley easy to find as it is only a few roads before were they hold Carpet Wars and took us about 40 mins to get there so about the same as Wodson for us.
The Venue itself is amazing. You do have to walk up some stairs but lets face it how long do we all spend sitting down at racing? I think we could all do with the exercise and from memory I used to race at a club were you had to walk up 4 flights of stairs and they had a huge number of members, as does Maritime. The big bonus is what you get at the end of the stairs, probably the best Venue in the country.
The track is about 32m long by 14m wide so for a local club night I don't think you will find a bigger track. The carpet is stuck down so no chance of the usual tape incidents. Black plastic trunking marks the track out an is a lot better to see than the usual white trunking.
The pits were excellent with more than enough room for 80 drivers. On the night we went there were 8 heats which contained a total of 76 drivers (80 being the limit). Don't forget there is no need for a 12v, table or chair as 240v power, chairs and permanate pit tables are already in place for you, a lot less to worry about and carry.
3 rounds of 5min qualiy and finals for all. Maritime can now manage to fit all this racing in because this is a permante venue so not much to put out or pack away, good for all.
If your thinking you won't have time to get there because of getting something to eat don't panic, there is also a cafe trackside for very reasonably priced: Chips, burgers, sausage rolls, tea, etc, etc...
All in all the perfect venue run by one of the most dedicated clubs. If clubs and venues had a star rating this one would definatley get 5 Stars from me, well done Maritime, hats off to you all.

P.S. They will be holding meetings before each round of Carpet Wars if you want to get a bit more practice in, contact Ian Knight via the Carpet Wars Website or Maritime Raceway Website for more details and times.
