Carpet Wars Round 5 Report.
Well what a strange start to the day that was. After leaving with pleanty of time to get to CW5 at 6.10am there was a diversion on the A2 because it was shut. Which meant going back to the M25 and down the M20 to juntion 4 and cutting across to rejoin the A2, but this was only a 15 min delay so not to bad, but we late or so I thought. As we pulled into the car park I was amased to see everyone still queuing outside. Aparently for the past 4-5 years we have been going in at 7.00am but were supposed to go in at 7.30am which will be the nornal time from now on.
G.M.C.C. were a bit low on numbers this time as Matt had a previous engagment, so me, Dani and Rich made up our team for the day, Team Scythe on tour lol.
Dani and Rich were out in heat 1, 27t but there were only 5 drivers so it would make life a bit easyier for them during qualiy.
Dani managed to improve from 11 laps to 15 Laps over the course of qualiy and was on consistant 20 second laps by roung 4. Rich also managed to go from 13 laps to 17 laps also improving on his lap times, well done both.
Dani had what some may call an easy final as there was only her and an older gentleman driver and she was 2nd on the grid. After what seemed like a very long final for Dani and me she managed to catch and pass the other driver and passed the finish line in 1st place with her best time of the day as well just missing a 16 lapper.
Rich had a smashing time in the next final out which he had qualiyied 5th and eventualy finished 6th, so not a bad result.
I was in heat 9, 19 turn and after practice with my new Axiom motor I was very impressed with some new found speed.
After round 2 I was laying in a comfortable 6th in the A, but R's 3 and 4 were a nightmare as I had front uj pins brake in both front left then right sides which dropped me to 2nd in the B.
So with new drive shafts, pins, grub screws and axles in I went for it as the start tone went but by now my vetecs had seen there best and I was overtaken by 3rd who side swipped me and this put me back to 10th, argh. With the car not working to its best with tyres going off and what was later to be found a half stripped front belt I tought shpuld I pull off? Nah, as I always tell everyone keep going as long as you can, which did pay off as I worked my way back up to 5th and got past Mark Bonny who was until that point beating me in the championship by 1 point but we are now tyed for 5th overall so not a bad result in the end. We now have 1 round left so it's do or die between me and Mark for 5th overall, should be a good one.

Re: Carpet Wars Round 5 Report.
Xray Win the Day as HB Win the War!
Olly Jeffries/HB/Nosram/Edit/Orion Win Carpet Wars!
Following an exciting fifth round of the Carpet Wars series Mirage team
driver Olly Jefferies was confirmed winner of the modified class at
this seasons Carpet Wars championship.
Driving his Nosram powered HB Cyclone Olly needed a good finish to
secure the title after dominating the three rounds he had previously
contested, he did not race at the fourth round which was won by Elliott
Harper with his Xray T2'008. Elliot and a number of other drivers were
in with a chance of the title, but with Olly only needing a top three
finish at this round the cards were stacked heavily in favour of the HB
driver. Glen Doman and Lee Woodhams were also in with a chance of
taking the title down to the wire and a shoot out at the last round,
but for Olly it was case of nailing this title this weekend if possible.

Sunday morning saw a cold start to proceedings but once racing was
underway things soon hotted up. Kevin Brunsden was quickly on the pace,
as was fellow Xray driver Sam Smith. Olly at this time was struggling
down in tenth spot with car problems. As the pace quickened Olly posted
a time which moved him up to fifth and set up a last round do or die
run for pole. Despite having to start fifth in the last round Olly got
on to FTD pace but was piped in the dying seconds by Andy Childs. Olly
eventually losing out by one hundredth of a second leaving him second
on the grid. Sam Smith was the surprise of qualifying putting his Xray
T2'008 an excellent 5th on the grid, Kevin Brunsden lined up third also
with his Xray.

Olly had a rare nightmare final which saw him make contact with Andy
early on, both drivers recovered, then were collected by the rest of
the field, dropping Olly down to last place. Olly limped the Cyclone
home in sixth place but as other results went his way, this was enough
to give him the modified title.
Kevin Brunsden took over the mantle of top Mirage driver and he took
the A final win from Glen Doman after a close race that could have been
anyone's right up to the last lap. This result leaves Kevin with a good
shot of taking second in the series at the final round.

The modified B final saw a convincing win for Luke Hobson with his
Xray, Luke struggled in qualifying but dominated from the front and
finished in a time that would have been worthy of mid A final time.

Olly adds this title to the Rug Racers modified title he won two weeks
ago at Woodson Park. With two major winter scalps under his belt Olly
and the rest of the Mirage team now turn their attentions to this
weekends Carpet Wars World Cup two day meeting and another title to add
to the growing collection!
