B.R.C.A. JUNIOR NATIONALS. (B.R.C.A. REPORTS).
Welcome
to the 2009 Junior Touring Car Championships here at the very race
friendly Eastbourne track on the south coast. As well at the juniors
meeting we have a full programme of other races including Mini’s and
World GT’s.
Practice
is underway under clear skies, will this be the first ever totally dry
juniors ?, lets hope so, a big thank you to the Eastbourne crew who
have really pushed the boat out to make this meeting happen and of
course the drivers and their families for supporting the meeting.
There
will be live updates from the track tomorrow, and hopefully plenty of
news and photos, I will post a few photos later today to give you a
flavour of this years event.
Saturday
9.30pm, yes PM and we are racing under floodlights, cars look fantastic
going around and the Eastbourne club are using this to allow drivers
some last minute running before the big event starts in the morning,
back at mid morning with the first updates and photos.
9.30 am Sunday
Good
morning and welcome to the 2009 Juniors, you don’t know how good it
feels to write that after a season when there were times when it looked
like this meeting might fall by the wayside, credit to the Eastbourne
club for sticking with it and the result is what we see this morning, a
large meeting on a fantastic track, smiling faces every where, sun
shining and a great days racing in prospect.
We have just had drivers briefing from our section chairman Mark Burgess and drivers are getting ready for heat one. More later.
11.30am.
Round
one completed and the meeting is now in full swing, round one saw
victories for Zak Smith, Luke Thompson, Kieran Clift, Nathan Winyard
and Daniel Moorey in their respective classes, at the top of the Pro
Stock 10.5 under 17 class its tight with a number of experienced
drivers battling for honours, Luke Thomson heads what is the biggest
class at the meeting but hot on his shirt tales is Jordon Howe and
Ayrton Anderson.
Its
good to see a number of top national drivers here today helping out the
junior drivers on their teams, particularly good to see UK top junior
Elliott Harper helping out fellow X-Ray drivers, difficult one for
Elliott as he is still legible to enter this meeting, some would say is
it fair allowing a worlds A finalist to run, others would say some
drivers would like to race to against Elliott, a tough one for Elliott
but in the end he decided on supporting the X-Ray brand rather than
entering the meeting.
Other
drivers here include national super touring A finalist Ben Cosgrove and
Chris Kerswell, like Elliot they are lending their help and experience
to Hot Bodies and Tamiya runners.
We have other races going on including World GT and Minis, more on those classes later.
3.00pm
Qualifying
is now over and I am hoping to post the overall FTD later, one thing I
can confirm is that Luke Thompson retained his top spot in the 10.5
under 17 classes and took FTD for X-Ray ahead of the TOP of Jordon Howe
and then another X-Ray in the form of Ayrton Anderson. Zak Smith led
his class throughout qualifying and dominated with his Associated and
will start on pole for the A.
Sorry
about the lack of updates but I have been busy with the raffle, we have
this every year, its free and every junior gets a prize, this year we
had the star prize of a Spectrum handset that went to one lucky driver,
many thanks to our backers for the well received goodies.
FTD Juniors
Daniel Moorey Under 12 27t Brushed
Daniel Veness Under 12 13.5 Brushless
Keiren Clift Under 14 13.5 Brushless
Zak Smith Under 14 10.5 Brushless
Luke Thompson Under 17 105 Brushless
Support Races
Chris Kerswell World GT
Ricky Copsie Open 13.5 Brushless
Jack Loannou Mini
4.00pm
First round of finals complete, wins for Zak Smith and after a
brilliant race Ayrton Anderson came through from third on the grid to
take victory, there was not one spectator point available around the
track as Ayrton battled with Luke Thompson, in the end a back marker
spilt a great dice and left Ayrton to cruise to victory. more final
news later.
As
per previous nationals a more complete report will appear later in the
week with more photos. The racing is that good I dont want to miss
any......

![]() Support Classes and Gallery The support classes for this years juniors incorporated the spirit of fun that is so often missing at a large touring car race, it was great to see a few big names racing but it was just as good to see the drivers enjoying themselves and not taking things to seriously, many of the more established drivers could be seen helping out with juniors and at the end of the day that was what it was all about. Congratulations to the A final winners namely Ricky Copsie who won the open 13.5 brushless class, Darren Simpson who win the Minis’ (Spash would be so proud), Andy Sawyer GT10 winner. I think it’s fair to say everyone juniors as well some older heads had a great day...thanks for supporting this meeting
